A building for the future
New Fortis building: inauguration planned for 2026
The district is investing 11.1 million euros in the construction of the new Paul Binder House in Herrenberg, which is being built directly next to the existing Fortis facility in Marienstraße.
The ground-breaking ceremony marks the start of a project that should be completed within the next two years.
A building for the future
The modern building will be built to the KfW 40 standard for energy efficiency and will have a photovoltaic system and pellet heating. The timber-hybrid construction method underlines the commitment to sustainability. With four storeys and an underground car park with ten parking spaces, the new Paul Binder House offers space for six residential groups, each with four apartments, thus creating 24 residential places for people with mental illnesses.
A symbol of appreciation and cooperation
The importance of this project was underlined by the presence and words of the speakers at the ground-breaking ceremony. Nico Reith, Herrenberg's new mayor, emphasized that the values of the Fortis association - orientation, participation, integration and solidarity - are also anchored in the city's mission statement. Fortis board member Fabian Schnieders thanked the district council for providing the funds and praised the many years of successful cooperation.
Honoring a pioneer
The new building bears the name of Paul Binder, a deacon who was instrumental in founding the original social working group and whose commitment was influential for decades. Binder, who was active in the local council and district council until his death in 2008, was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his services.
An important project for the community
District Administrator Roland Bernhard emphasized that the historic brick building in which Fortis is currently housed can no longer meet the requirements of the current state home building regulations. The new building had therefore become necessary. The new Paul Binder House will not only meet modern requirements, but is also a clear commitment to continuing the valuable social work in the region.
With the new building, Fortis will be able to continue and expand its important work to support people in difficult circumstances and offer them prospects.
MVD is working on the structural design LPH 1 to 8 for this project.
