Künzelsau

Carmen Würth Forum 1st construction phase

The new building south of Künzelsau with a gross floor area of 11,000m2 comprises a sports and event hall for 2,500 visitors and a chamber music hall with 600 seats in the first construction phase. The flat building on a slight hill is embedded in the open meadow landscape. Two incisions in the landscape create two enclosed outdoor spaces flanked by retaining walls made of in-situ concrete: An open-air area for up to 10,000 spectators in front of the main entrance is now used for various open-air events.

The chamber music hall extends over two storeys on levels -1 and 0. The supporting structure in reinforced concrete construction is designed as a waterproof concrete structure ("white tank") against pressing water on the lower level. The sports hall on level 0 does not have a basement. Above the reinforced concrete base, the roof structure is erected as a steel structure with 21 m wide, triangular cross-section trusses. The beams rest on steel supports in the façade levels. The façade is designed as an approx. 8 m high steel and glass façade.
