Extension to Göppingen district office

Increased space requirements and ageing existing structures were the reasons for the Göppingen District Office to plan and implement an extension. The extension is integrated into the existing corner plot. The connection between the existing building and the extension is made by a glass connecting structure, which also forms the new entrance area.

The building itself comprises a basement with storage and technical areas. The first floor houses a large conference room, the canteen and the foyer. The office and administration areas are located on the three upper floors.

The ceiling above the large meeting room is a special feature of the supporting structure. As a prestressed, beam-free flat ceiling, it absorbs the column loads from the three upper floors. The combination of prestressing and flat ceiling enabled the column-free span of 14 m with maximum light height and maximum freedom of installation.

With its natural stone façade, the extension successfully blends in with the existing building structure with its shell limestone façades. The extension was certified with DGNB Gold and received the award for exemplary construction from the district of Göppingen.

As a material-optimized reinforced concrete structure, the supporting structure makes a significant contribution to DGNB certification.
