Heidelberg
Bahnstadt at Europaplatz
The Bahnstadt in Heidelberg on the site of the former freight station is one of the largest urban development projects in Germany.
The urban quarter around Europaplatz was created directly south of the main railway station. Five buildings were constructed to passive house standards, which are used for offices, retail, restaurants, residential and as a hotel. Underneath is a two-storey shared underground car park, into which a bicycle parking garage is also integrated.
The construction project also includes a 14 m wide reinforced concrete bridge over the Max-Planck-Ring, which connects the cross platform hall of the main station with the newly created Europaplatz.
The supporting structure of the buildings consists mainly of reinforced concrete with flat ceilings in skeleton construction (office, restaurant) or reinforced concrete ceilings on reinforced concrete walls (residential, hotel). In some areas, such as the city loggia, larger spans are bridged with steel composite beams.
The exterior façades were designed as high-quality natural stone façades made of Dietfurt limestone.
