Böblingen
District Savings Bank
With the extension, Kreissparkasse Böblingen reorganized its large area with buildings from the 1970s and 1990s. In the first construction phase, a 4-storey extension was built with an underground car park underneath, which continues the perimeter block development. It is connected to the existing buildings via the spacious lobby.
In the second construction phase, the existing buildings were restructured and renovated to make them more energy-efficient. The former customer hall was converted into a multifunctional event hall. The large spans above the passageway of the extension were bridged with a pre-stressed flat ceiling. The office ventilation and concrete core activation were integrated into the flat ceilings; the foundation piles are used geothermally as energy piles.
The existing buildings themselves were completely gutted for this purpose; an event hall was integrated into the former customer hall. Disruptive columns had to be removed for this new use. Instead, the existing roof structure was reinforced for larger spans. The large-scale ceiling closures and greatly increased live loads required local reinforcement of the existing ribbed ceilings and the addition of small and micropiles to the existing pile foundations.
