Kindergarten Rainbow

New construction of a single-storey kindergarten in Baden-Baden-Steinbach with space for three groups of children. The floor plan is based on a small "village" with "alleyways" and "squares". In a playful way, this creates a clearly organized structure with exciting spatial developments that allow the children a variety of views.

The focal point is the "village square" with a generous skylight. This is where the dining area, meeting area and activity area come together and offer a variety of educational uses.

The building is founded on individual and strip foundations. The primary building material is wood, a natural and sustainable resource. The structure was built as a timber frame construction with a wooden beam ceiling. Larch slats give the façade a natural look. The building is braced by the roof slab and the exterior walls.

Due to the recessed glass façades, the exterior and interior of the building and the open space merge seamlessly into one another. Round, soft corridor edges allow the interior spaces to flow into one another and at the same time convey a sense of security and openness. Daylight reaches the group rooms deep into the building via generous glazing on the corridor walls. The outer wooden slatted façade defines the building's cubature, while the recessed transparent façade areas are designed as all-glass façades with colored panels in line with the educational concept. The recessed façade creates spacious, sheltered canopy areas that ensure natural ventilation regardless of the weather. In the area of the main entrances, the outer façade nestles inwards with a generous curve, emphasizing the open, inviting gesture of the building.
