Rottweil

District Savings Bank Rottweil

The extension and the existing head office building, which is to be retained, were combined to form a compact structure. A cantilevered, three-storey entrance building reinforces the urban presence of the Sparkasse along Königstrasse. To this end, the existing building was structurally preserved and renovated in terms of energy efficiency and fire protection.

The primary, steel supporting structure was retained and upgraded in the area of the wide-span atrium roof. In order to achieve the fire resistance duration of 90 minutes, the existing Robertson ceilings had to be replaced with lightweight but fire-resistant Holorib ceilings. Rottweil is located in earthquake zone 1. In order to achieve the necessary structural safety, the existing building and extension were combined to form an earthquake-proof unit. The wide projection of the massive entrance structure was solved on the load-bearing side using prestressed parapet beams.
