The new research and laboratory building for Production Engineering and Automation, Department of Lightweight Construction Technology, is the first new building of the Stuttgart Technology and Innovation Campus S-Tec on the Birkhof site. The institute conducts research into lightweight construction, the development of new materials and processing technologies and deals with the pressing issues of our time. The façade is made from recycled glass and waste from solar cell production in a sustainable and resource-saving way.

The architecture follows the shape of the street and the geometry of the square, whose stairs extend into the representative foyer. In this way, the building opens up to its surroundings and the interior interlocks invitingly with the urban exterior. The flowing, horizontal lines of the glass-ceramic façade give the four-storey building dynamism and lightness.

Inside, there are modern and bright offices, seminar areas, laboratories and a three-storey research hall.
