New Construction of the Rain School Complex

Anyone who enters the new school complex in Rain can sense what makes this modern middle and secondary school so special. The new building brings together learning, daily life, and social interaction for more than 1,000 students, thus providing the ideal setting for contemporary educational practices. In addition to classrooms equipped with modern facilities, there are shared specialty rooms and a cafeteria. The centerpiece—a 700-square-meter auditorium—serves as both a communication hub and a break area, featuring a large stage and state-of-the-art technology. The outdoor areas are designed as play and recreation spaces.

To this end, two new structures were connected to the renovated existing building. The existing cafeteria was integrated into the new building and built over. The inner courtyard on the second floor (composite steel floor) is suspended from the roof slab, creating a “floating inner courtyard” and a column-free 16 x 33-meter auditorium on the ground floor. Composite columns serve as tension members and to support heavy loads

On the roof surfaces, the installation of a full-surface PV system was accommodated through appropriate load assumptions and optional openings for utility routing.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the project—comprising several construction phases—was completed on schedule and within budget after five years of construction. We are very proud of this exemplary project.
