Böblingen/Sindelfingen

Airfield clinic

The Flugfeldklinikum is part of the new city quarter on the former military airfield and replaces the previous hospital sites in Böblingen and Sindelfingen. With 700 patient beds, the large hospital with helipad, parking garage and service yard provides maximum medical care for the entire district. It offers the necessary medical specialties, a surgical and conservative area, emergency and intensive care medicine and a mother and child area. The hospital is divided into the north and south buildings, the central access corridor, the service yard and the west parking garage.

In the area of the 16.60 m wide main thoroughfare, the two structures are connected on the upper floors by three bridges. Due to the large spans, the connecting bridges and roof slab above the entrance hall are prestressed. The solid ceilings form a trough cross-section.

To the east, the main thoroughfare is continued as a 9.00 m high entrance hall in reinforced concrete construction. The individual buildings to the north interlock with the green center of the urban quarter.

The northern building contains the 6-storey ward block with a parent-child center and the technical center on the top floor. With its modern room design, large glass surfaces, natural materials, restrained color scheme and maximum daylight in 1- and 2-bed rooms, the architecture supports the healing process with positive impulses.

The façade of the clinic is horizontally banded and consists of "floating" windows, curtain-type precast concrete elements and alternating clinker brick elements.
The southern structure extends over 5 storeys with functional clinical use and a helipad on the roof. The west parking garage is designed as a split-level system parking garage with 10 levels and parking spaces for approx. 1000 cars. Proof of earthquake safety is provided on the 3-dimensional overall model. The basement is tied into the groundwater horizon and is designed as a watertight "yellow tank". The low-lying service yard is embedded approx. 2.15 m into the groundwater and is secured against uplift with tension piles. The foundation is a shallow foundation on an elastically bedded base plate.

The project received the BIM Cluster BW Award in 2021.
