Dresden

Forensic institute of the LKA Saxony

The new CTI Dresden building is an important building block for securing social coexistence. Behind the clean sandstone façade, state-of-the-art technology is used to carry out forensic work, laboratory analyses and DNA examinations for the country's internal security. The compact 7-storey reinforced concrete building with 2 basement floors and a staggered inner courtyard is integrated into the existing LKA buildings as a solitary structure. The building was founded on an elastically bedded floor slab and braced by continuous access cores. The façade of the first floor was constructed in a closed design with broken-up sections - from the second floor upwards as a perforated façade with continuous shafts. The storey ceilings are designed as continuous flat ceilings without beams with ceiling spans of up to 9.0 m

The monolithic appearance of the building, which is rather closed on the outside, gives it a self-confident appearance. Inside, a protective and at the same time open communicative effect is created. For the 3,200 m² façade area, Main sandstone was used as a facing brick shell and in the area of the window parapets and blind windows as a rear-ventilated façade. The window sills are drained via internal gutters. On the first floor, the austerity of the façade is broken up by the "Spurensucher" project by artists Birgit Nadrau and Annie Kuschel. A quiet and visually restrained work with motifs that develop a narrative power through 3D milling in the sandstone. The entire building was planned according to the highest safety standards. The building was planned using BIM methodology.

In 2023, the new CTI Dresden building was one of the first laboratory buildings in Germany to be certified with Gold status according to the German Sustainable Building Rating System (BNB) and was awarded the German Natural Stone Prize in 2024.
