Stuttgart
Higher Regional Court
With the new replacement building, the state of Baden-Württemberg has created the framework for particularly security-intensive court proceedings at Stuttgart Higher Regional Court and the regional courts. The new trial building will replace the multi-purpose building from the 1970s, in which some of the most spectacular trials in German post-war history have taken place. Architects Thomas Müller and Ivan Reimann from Berlin planned a compact rectangular structure with two large courtrooms for the new replacement building. Both meeting rooms can be used independently of each other. Inner courtyards make it easier to find your way around the building and provide light for the safety-relevant, inward-facing rooms.
Due to the high demands on robustness and process reliability, a flexible and continuous reinforced concrete structure was developed for the compact building. In the control areas, flat reinforced concrete ceilings supported on columns and walls were provided. The ceilings of the two 21 m deep, two-storey halls are spanned column-free with prestressed prefabricated trusses. Wall-like girders with spans of more than 17 m were planned and implemented above the spacious, column-free entrance areas. The inner courtyards are spanned by prestressed cable nets to protect against vandalism.
